jonty’s story

June 1, 2011

Dear Paul and Monika and all who are a part of your wonderful church, Lighthouse Church.

Just wanted to give you an update on Jonty, and let you share in the joy of our miracle.  We want to express our thanks and gratitude to you for all your prayers, meals, accommodation, and accommodation offers while we were at the Royal North Shore Hospital with Jonty.  There are no words to express our thanks, just to say that you are a precious church and may God bless you hundred fold.

After an hour of Jonty being born, he stopped breathing and was rushed with Katie and Jono to Royal North Shore Hospital.  To cut a long story short, the doctors didn’t hold out much hope for him, but the saints were praying.  He laid on ice and had a block of ice on his chest for 3 days so his bodily functions would slow right down.  He had a heart beat, but needed a machine to breath for him.

They thought that he had a couple of seizures and so they did an MRI and EEG test for his brain.  Then, the blood tests came back indicating he had a strep infection in his blood system.  It wasn’t looking good, but the saints were praying.   Then, Jonty started breathing on his own, there were no more recorded seizures, the strep infection wasn’t there any more and the doctors could not explain that, they said they must have had some wrong readings.

Slowly slowly, Jonty fought the odds and today, 13th May, he went home.  Breathing, swallowing, moving – beautiful little baby.  Mike and I had our first hold on Thursday night, 12th May.  It was a very emotional time.  We truly believe that God has healed Jonty.

The doctors and staff are all amazed.  In fact, the “pink ladies” at the hospital, quilted a small quilt for Jonty and on the day Katie and Jonty were being flown back from Sydney, Katie asked the nurses why the other babies didn’t have a blanket to take home.  They said “They only make them for the babies they don’t believe will survive”.  Oh what a wonderful God we serve.

elijah’s story

June 1, 2011

Elijah Jack Harding was born on 23rd March 2011 at Hornsby Hospital. On day 3 of his little life he became very sick. He had a couple of ‘dusky episodes’ which meant that his oxygen level was very low and he couldn’t breathe properly. The nurse rushed him into the ICU and taped oxygen tubes into his nose. We contacted our pastors, friends and family and asked them to pray for our little boy.

The doctors took an x-ray and showed us a ‘double bubble’ in his stomach.  They said he would need an operation that afternoon to stretch his bowels so we prayed that God would heal him in Jesus name.  When they took a second x-ray with more detail for the surgeon at Westmead Hospital, the ‘double bubble’ was no longer there!!

The doctor’s then said that he may have meningitis or some type of infection because he was so lethargic. To test for this they needed to carry out a lumber puncher into his tiny spine and then grow cultures from the sample. The test results would take 24-48hrs to come back so they decided to continue other tests in the mean time. They tested his urine but had to stick a needle into his tiny bladder to get a sample. Under the microscope his urine had bacteria and puss in it. They said that if it was a urinary tract infection that his kidneys could be damaged but they had to wait 48hrs for the urine culture to grow, so we prayed and prayed. His poor little arm had a splint with the cannula pumping fluid and antibiotics into his body. This all happened within 8hrs.

The next day we went for the Ultra sound of his kidneys. The doctors were looking to see if he had kidney reflux which would mean an operation and antibiotics for at least 1 year, so we prayed and the results were clear!! Praise God!! We prayed and we waited another 24hrs and finally the doctor came to us with the results of the urine culture. It was clear as well!! They could not grow anything, not one thing grew. To make things even better, when the doctor looked at the first urine sample again under the microscope, it was clear too, no puss or bacteria in it any more. God had not only healed our beautiful boy but he’d healed the sample as well.

Finally, the tests came back for the possible meningitis and everything was clear!!! The doctor was baffled ,he said it was really weird and so we told him that we had prayed and that God had healed Elijah:)

Elijah is now doing really well, he is cooing and smiling all the time and putting on loads of weight.
